LuAnn Heinen is Vice President, National Business Group on Health. She is responsible for the Business Group's Patient Safety Initiative and serves as Director, Institute on the Costs & Health Effects of Obesity. Previously, she headed Heinen HealthCare Associates LLC for five years. In this position she provided strategy, analysis, marketing/communications and project management services to a broad range of health care clients, including managed care, pharmaceutical, and nonprofit organizations. Ms. Heinen's earlier experience included four years with Chronimed, Inc. as Divisional Vice President, Business Development, and five years with UnitedHealth Group, most recently as Vice President, Center for Health Policy and Evaluation. A common denominator in these positions was an emphasis on solutions for individuals with chronic health conditions, health improvement through prevention of disease, and measurement of outcomes. Immediately prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Ms. Heinen was a management consultant in Washington, D.C. with The Lewin Group. Earlier, she held internships or consulting positions with The John A. Hartford Foundation, UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies, Duke University's Center for Health Policy, Research & Education, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. LuAnn Heinen earned a Master of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and an AB in Human Biology with distinction from Stanford University. She is the author of several articles on cost and quality evaluation in managed care. Ms. Heinen currently serves on the NCQA Measurement Advisory Panel for Obesity in Adults, the NICQH Childhood Obesity Advisory Committee and the Minnesota Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Steering Committee.
